Starting from the assumption that all possible grain orientations are equally probable, the mean resolved shear stress and strain in polycrystalline bars subjected to axially symmetric tension or compression are calculated using an averaging method. This mean plastic resolved shear strain is then integrated with the kinetics of thermally activated dislocation depinning to derive the equations of motion for stress. These derivations demonstrate that the geometric factor is $2(1 + \nu)$, where $\nu$ represents Poisson’s ratio. In the subsequent scope of work, a large-scale least-squares analysis will be performed to identify the physics-based parameters of this theory. The study aims to demonstrate that the theoretical stress-strain curves for copper, iron, and steel agree well with the experimental data established by Johnson and Cook (1985) |
