This extensive use of plastics has raised concerns about its contribution to the global plastic waste crisis. In 2020, 3D printing consumed approximately 18,500 tons of plastic, and by 2023, nearly 43% of global plastic waste remained unrecycled, often ending up in the environment. Recycling challenges are particularly acute in emerging and developing countries, highlighting the need for sustainable solutions. Concurrently, industries are increasingly adopting circular economy (CE) principles, which aim to decouple economic growth from finite resource consumption and minimize waste through system design. Additive manufacturing offers opportunities to support CE by enabling material-efficient, localized production and reducing overall waste. This thesis investigates the integration of circular economy principles with additive manufacturing in the context of Vietnam. The research focuses on identifying the key drivers that facilitate successful CE adoption and the barriers that hinder the development of a circular economy community for 3D printing and its consumables. The findings provide practical insights for promoting sustainable manufacturing and advancing responsible use of AM technologies. |
