Title: A comprehensive study on designing 3D printing patterns and optimal parameter selection for maximizing tensile strength
Authors: Le Hoang Lam
Keywords: 3D printing;Printing technology
Issue Date: 2024
Abstract:
The infill pattern is an orderly arranged structure usually used for filling the hollow spaces inside a part 3D printed with FDM technology or by other material-extruding 3D printing processes to adjust the printed part’s density. Although the infill structures might not be seen from the outside, their influence on the part’s mechanical properties is significant, and they have plenty of potential to be developed. This study will focus on the goal of designing a new infill pattern that is not yet integrated into the common slicing software and has better tensile properties compared to the available infill patterns. The better tensile strength provided by the new infill pattern will be confirmed by simulating in Abaqus, then 3D printing and testing in a tensile testing machine. Besides that, the impact of some related process parameters on the part’s tensile strength and the effectiveness of the new pattern will also be estimated using the Taguchi method and the Response Surface method.
