Abstract: 
Fully functional solar panels are created through a seamless and integrated process that converts glass sheets into Thin Film Photovoltaics (PV) Modules. The company’s proprietary, vertically integrated process comprises hundreds of process tools and conveyors controlled by Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs). These tools established a machine-to-machine communication network through PLC’s Ethernet I/P so Work in Progress (WIP) product data can be exchanged among tools from beginning to end. Production data is collected at distributed local SQL Databases, then pushed to some analytical software (SAS, JMP …) for production monitoring. The problem with the current process data monitoring is still a manual process. The engineers need to run analytical scripts regularly to detect any abnormality in the production line. This kind of manual monitoring causes some delays which might cost hours of production downtime or a huge number of scrap products. Thus, the company management team wants to build a centralized Manufacturing Execution System that can automatically control all production processes with minimum human interaction. This thesis aims to outline the overall architecture/framework, necessary software/platform, and required human resources for implementing a digital transformation project at a solar panel manufacturing plant
