Title: Artificial intelligence in accounting: is AI the future of accountancy?
Authors: Luong Thi Bao Ngan
Keywords: Artificial intelligence;Accounting
Issue Date: 2023
Abstract:
This paper examines the implementation of artificial intelligence in the accounting industry to give an overview about the influences of it on the field and find answers to the questions whether AI is the right future of accounting or if it poses a threat to the employment prospects of humans in this industry. The research is conducted in a qualitative method by generating a variety of scientific journals and reports with a strong emphasis on the biggest four companies in the industry including Deloitte, EY, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), and KPMG. The results show that AI greatly benefits the accounting process and accounting firms, although it may cause a light shift of career and pose some challenges when implemented. It is also made clear that AI will
not replace the human position in accounting professions no matter how advanced it is. Indeed if accountants are willing to embrace the technology, their career may be boosted to a whole new level.
