Title: | Simulation of a wave generation system using smoothed particle hydrodynamics | Authors: | Tran Nguyen Huy | Keywords: | Wave generation system;Particle hydrodynamics | Issue Date: | 2021 | Abstract: | This thesis is aimed to simulate a wave generation system using a mesh-free particle method, namely Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH). The wave generation system consists of a plunger-type wavemaker, a long channel, and an inclined plane. The wavemaker moves up and down, interacting with the water in the channel to create waves which are then attenuated and broken on the inclined plane. This system mimicked exactly a real system that has been built at the Fluid Mechanics laboratory of Bach Khoa University except that our simulations are of twodimensions. The whole system is included in the simulations. Indeed, the wavemaker, the channel’s bottom wall, and the inclined plane are discretized into particles, so-called SPH solid particles; and in a similar fashion, the water is discretized into SPH fluid particles. All these particles move and/or flow according to Newton’s second law in Lagrangian framework. |
