Title: | Power quality measurement based on LabVIEW and cRIO | Authors: | Tran Quang Luong | Keywords: | LabVIEW;CompactRIO;Power quality measurement;Energy resouce;Energy efficiency;Power industry | Issue Date: | 2014 | Publisher: | Vietnamese-German University | Abstract: | Nowadays, Electrical power is becoming the most important as an energy resource in the modern life. The global demand for electrical energy is increasing rapidly for the quantity and quality. Beside that the rising of renewable energy resources such as wind, solar, hydro, and increasing demand of energy efficiency actions in order to meet intentional standards in combination with regional to regionalfor power supply systems of different utilities and the liberalization of the energy market. Therefore, both electric utilities and end users of electric power are becoming increasingly concerned about the quality of electric power. The term power quality has become one of the most important factors in the power industry. It is lead the electrical engineer and researcher to find the best solution in order to measuring, data logging, monitoring, and controlling all of event occur on the electrical power grid system. The recurring idea running through all these reasons for increased concern about the quality of electric power is the continued push for increasing productivity for all utility of customers. Manufacturers want to these are operated faster, more productive, more efficiency. Utilities encourage this effort because it helps their customers become more profitable and also helps defer large investments in substations and generation by using more efficient load equipment. Interestingly, the equipment installed to increase the productivity is also often the equipment that suffers the most from common power disruptions. And the equipment is sometimes the source of additional power quality problems. When entire processes are automated, the efficient operation of machines and their controls becomes increasingly dependent on quality power. There are four major reasons for the increased concern of power quality: First, new generation of load equipment, using microprocessor controls and power electronic devices, is more sensitive to power quality variations than traditional equipment in the past. Second, the increasing emphasis on overall power system efficiency has resulted in continued growth in the application of devices such as high-efficiency, adjustable-speed motor drives and shunt capacitors for power factor correction to reduce losses. This is esulting in increasing harmonic levels on power systems and has many people concerned about the future impact on system capabilities. Third, end users have an increased awareness of power quality issues. Utility customers are becoming better informed about such issues as interruptions, sags, and switching transients and are challenging the utilities to improve the quality of power delivered. Last but not least, many things are now connected in a network for the system integrated processes it means that the failure of any component has much more important consequences. For this thesis, it will be introduced the most basic parameters of electric power in order to evaluate the quality of electric power on the grid. It is also be introduce the hardware and software of measurement instruments based on embedded system that can met the international standards such as IEC and EN. |
