Traditional heart rate measurement methods rely on special electronic or optical sensors, and most of the instruments require skin contact which make them feel inconvenient and uncomfortable. In the other hand, cameras are abundant, and easy to find on almost every electronic appliance. It has been confirmed that skin color will change their color because of cardiac pulses. Nevertheless, it is still a challenging task since the magnitude of the change is still very small. This thesis aimed to provide a framework to measure heart rate in real time from video; at first, the fingertip will be considered, then human face (with some restriction like only small movement allowed, well-lit condition) |
