Title: | A comparative study on experimental investigation surface quality between CNC machining and 3D printing | Authors: | Le Doan Quoc Bao | Keywords: | CNC machining;Surface quality;3D printing;Fused deposition modelling (FDM);CNC milling | Issue Date: | 2016 | Publisher: | Vietnamese-German University | Abstract: | Subtractive and Additive are two fundamental concepts in modern manufacturing with their own advantages and disadvantages. Each process demands customization, service-orientation and sustainability. The comparison between them will be the basis of process improvement. This thesis describes the results of a comparative study on the variability in surface roughness of an ABS plastic test part manufactured by two different processes: 3D printing and CNC machining. The state-of-the-art in two different machines for Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) and CNC milling are presented aiming at understanding the fundamental limitations of each technology. |
