Title: Reliability of an aggregated energy storage system
Authors: Le Thi My Anh
Keywords: Reliability aspect;Aggregated energy storage system
Issue Date: 2019
Publisher: Vietnamese-German University
Abstract:
The renewable energy technologies are recently developed due to gradual exhaustion of conventional energy sources, and global warming. The renewable energy exploitation for supplying the electricity demand is employed to reduce greenhouse gases emission. However, the integration of renewable energy systems into the utility grid can cause negative impacts on the reliability and quality of the output power because of the intermittency of renewable energy. Hence, the energy storage systems are necessarily utilized to overcome the power fluctuation of these renewable energy systems. The energy storage systems will be used to store surplus electricity from renewable energy systems, and then served that energy to customers when required.
Reliability is an important aspect of the power system in planning, designing and operating stages. The reliability indices are used by power generators to assess the performance of the power system from conceptual design to operation phases. When the power interruptions occur, it may result in economic loss and socioeconomic effects of the both customers and power generators because of the sensitiveness of the electrical equipment, loss of efficiency, loss of sales, etc. Therefore, in order to improve the reliability of the power system with the penetration of renewable energy systems, and energy storage systems, there is a requirement to evaluate the reliability of energy storage systems at early stage.
