By recycling the component cores at higher level than raw material level, compared to other end-of-life strategies, remanufacturing operations as a separate business unit in order to address specific challenges linked to this field. As a result, remanufacturing research mostly focuses on increasing supply chain and operations productivity and specific demand market segmentation and strategies of intention and actual purchase behavior is therefore getting increasing attention in the academic field, as it is an essential element for increasing acceptance and market success of remanufactured products or services. Under this context, the present work aims to determine basic characteristics of the profile of potential consumers who are willing to buy remanufactured products in Ho Chi Minh city. Vietnam is a developing country following the traditional production and consumption pattern of "take-make-dispose" and the concept of remanufactured products is unknown to consumers. This project takes motorbike parts, a familiar product to Vietnamese consumers, as an exemplary case study to analyze specific criteria for the introduction of remanufacturing concept to consumers. To this end, a review of literature in behavioral consumption models for current motorbike parts aftermarket in Ho Chi Minh City identifies factors consumers' willingness to buy remanufactured motorbike parts. Theoretical hypotheses are quantitative research and the hypotheses' factors are validated by the resulting data analysis using the SPSS statistical software. The internal results consistency between factors and sub-factors are carried out by calculating Cronbach's alpha coefficient and exploratory factor analysis EFA. After a preliminary assessment, regression analysis is performed in order to determine the magnitude of impact that each factor contributes to the consumer decision of potential buying remanufactured parts. Finally, T-test and ANOVA shall be applied to compare the differences among factors affecting purchase intention between the consumer groups with different personal characteristics. Based on the findings, potential market segments for remanufactured motorbike parts in Ho Chi Minh City are proposed. |
