The result is a lack of understanding, applying and connecting the previously learned knowledge and skills. Over the last decades, a shift in education from instruction - based to learner-centered teaching methods can be noticed. This trend questions the traditional "learning by listening" approach and focuses rather on the ability to find and use information in a meaningful way. One element to diversify teaching is the implementation of so-called serious games. Serious games are widely used in education and there is an increasing interest in how games may influence learning in higher education. A promising application for a serious game is factory planning. Currently, there are only few serious games available for factory planning and none of them reflect the phases of factory planning. Consequently, factory planning is often only taught in theory. HVDC cable manufacturing is a meaningful application for a serious game, as the complexity of the material flow is still manageable. |
