This work proposed a new optimal control law with adjustable gain of the sliding mode controller associated with the objective function of the Bolza-Meyer criterion. The eminent property of the proposed controller is to have the value of the gain which is larger than 1. This point is a breakthrough to overcome the disadvantage of conventional optimal controllers those have constant gain of 1 or less than 1. After formulating optimal controllers for two different control systems of polynomial time-varying and line time-varying systems, four examples were simulated to validate some benefits of the proposed approach. Four crucial index values representing control performances were identified from the simulation results; cost of calculation, energy index, control gain index and the state index. It has been validated that four crucial index values of the proposed optimal control law are less than those obtained from comparative optimal controllers. The reduction of these values directly indicates excellent performances of the proposed optimal control law showing less energy consumption, higher stability and higher robustness with the faster convergence.en_US
