Title: | Leadership in Vietnamese financial industry – authoritative and affiliative. Which style is predominant ? | Authors: | Nguyen Phuc Minh Thien | Keywords: | Leadership;Authoritative;Affiliative | Issue Date: | 2016 | Abstract: | This paper chooses Vietnamese financial industry to evaluate the different leadership styles and search for the one that is predominant. There are many ways to define different leadership styles, so this paper is based on six different leadership styles in the leadership toolbox of Daniel Goleman, 2002, and especially focuses on the authoritative and affiliative leadership styles. The paper included four main parts, which are the introduction, the description or definition of different leadership styles, the predominant leadership styles in theory and in reality, and the conclusion. In the description, there are three big sections, consisting of emotional intelligence, the leadership toolbox, and the definition of authoritative and affiliative leadership styles. The emotional intelligence is the core element in each leadership style according to Daniel, thus it will be more straightforward to get to know it at the beginning. The definition of the other four leadership styles, which are coercive leadership style, democratic leadership style, coaching leadership style, and pacesetting leadership style, are clearly indentified in the section of leadership toolbox. Because the authoritative and affiliative leadership styles are two main styles that this paper concerns, hence they are separated in a different section, and each style is evaluated by its’ characteristics, its’ different types, its’ applicable situations and some examples. In the part predominant leadership style, the reality section only evaluates the situation in Vietnam, so the first piece of this section is the traits of Vietnamese culture. Following the first piece are the other three big pieces, which are the Vietnamese leadership style, the differences among public, private and joint venture companies, and some examples of real leaders in Vietnamese financial companies. There are five Vietnamese popular financial companies and one big milk production company that are mentioned here. The conclusion deduces the predominant leadership style from the view in theory and from the view of leaders in actual Vietnamese financial companies. The suggestion of the writer is given in the very last section of the conclusion. |
