In the first section, we determine whether the trade deficit actually represents a harmful problem to the U.S. economy. Secondly, the paper addresses the relationship between America and China by review the regulation of the present exchange rate system with a heavy focus on China exchange rate regime and trade practices. After examining the bilateral trade relationship between the two nations, the third section focuses on the role of the U.S. in creating the current account deficit by examining the two most prominent arguments: 1) Trade deficit as an outcome of the huge budget deficit; 2) Trade deficits as a symptom of the deterioration of saving and manufacturing sector in the United States. The fourth section devotes to analyzing the potential impact of Trump tariff policies on job creation and deficit reduction, which are the goals that lie in the heart of his policies. The final section analyzes the potential political and economic policies that China can apply to counter the Trump's tariff policies. |
