Title: | Examining the constraints to economies of scopes of small and medium enterprises in Vietnam | Authors: | Cao Huynh Minh Triet | Keywords: | Constraints to economies of scopes;Small and medium enterprises | Issue Date: | 2016 | Publisher: | Vietnamese-German University | Abstract: | Small enterprises play an important role in the economy of Vietnam. Based on reports of VCCI (2015), there are 97% of enterprises in Vietnam are small and medium. In addition, they contribute approximately 50% of total Gross Domestic Products (GDP) and generate 62% of total jobs for Vietnam. However, the number of small enterprises that declared bankruptcy or had to shut down in Vietnam due to ineffective business or lack of competitive ability keeps increasing over time. According to VCCI, in the first quarter of 2015, more than 2500 enterprises declared dissolution. Economies of scope is a popular and highly effective economic theory that helps enterprises, especially small ones, manage and make use of their limited resources efficiently to create competitive advantage and survival in such an intensely competitive market. Therefore, this theory is considered as a solution for competition and survivals of small enterprises in Vietnam. Nonetheless, there are constraints on this theory that prevent small enterprises to successfully apply it to the business. A series of restraints will be further examined and discussed in this paper. |
