Title: | Over the internet telemetry with NODEJS and GPRS | Authors: | Nguyen Tung | Keywords: | Telemetry;Framework;GPRS | Issue Date: | 2017 | Publisher: | Vietnamese-German University | Abstract: | Telemetry is the automated collection and transmittal of measurement data from a remote or inaccessible environment to a nearby or accessible environment for storage and analysis, Telemetry sees applications in many aspects of life; in medical. aerospace. robotics. agriculture. metrology, etc. These telemetry systems have been around since 1885 but they have not been widely adopted in Vietnam until recently. ln order to make telemetry more accessible. a structured framework that will enable rapid development of low-cost and highly adaptable telemetry solutions is necessary. This document defines a framework for Internet of Things telemetry solutions using SlIv1800A GPRS module and Nodejs web stack. The framework is composed of hardware and software components spanning across two environments. The first, the node client, is the remote or inaccessible environment. The node client is an Arduino microcontroller attached to sensors and actuators. It sends and receives data to the server using a GPRS interact gate kay provided by SlIv1800A module. The second. the webserver, is the nearby and accessible environment. The webserver provides RESTful AP1 endpoints to interact with node clients and a web interface to interact with web users, It is written in a web stack consisting of Nodejs, Angularjs. HTML, CSS and SQL database. All node clients have a registered profile and a configuration for every sensor or actuator attached to them. The webserver configuration can be changed by the web user at any time and the behavior of the node clients firmware will update itself to reflect the change. Two forms of CPS, multiple voltage levels power supply, extensible driver manager library, and modularized hardware design provide a wide range of tools for the development of derivative telemetry solutions. Finally, recommendations for a solar-powered portable supply, watchdog timer, power-saving mode, shared internet gateway network, code-on-demand RESTful API, and SQL security tweaks are made in order to tackle the current limitations and further improve the versatility the framework in future projects. |
