It has grown rapidly and become an important part of telecommunication in recent years. Contributing to the success of VoIP is Session Initiation Protocol (SIP). SIP is a simple and modular signaling protocol. SIP messages carry not only necessary information to initiate VoIP process, but also session descriptions which let VoVs users comply on a set of media types used in the communication. This research paper has two objectives. The main part is to set up a VoIP network and analyze VoIP procedures., including the investigation of SIP messages. In addition. necessary knowledge and components for setting up the VoIP network such as Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), Domain Name System (DNS), Routing Information Protocol (RIP) are also researched. The results captured in Wireshark during the simulation provide an insight into SIP messages and its influence to the operation of Vo1P. The second section is to study Vo1P characteristics and the impact of diverse factors on VoIP performance in which audio codec is the main factor. The simulation on OPNET Riverbed Modeler iNieltes that different audio codecs have impacts on VoIP voice quality. |
