Voice recognition has been a well-known technology in modern life. By teaching machines to understand human speech, the effectiveness of working is greatly enhanced. Many small systems use it to import words by sound instead of typing. Nowadays, robotic field, manufacturing, automotive also apply this more and more where physical touch and eye sight are limited. Besides that, there is still a great challenge regarding the topic since there are various aspects in human communication. Sound, words, sentences, lectures and the context have to be deliberating considered. With technology today, many decent accomplishments have been made but still far from perfection. This project purposes to identify the properties of human speech and uses them to identify some particular sound. The first discussion is about the physiological mechanism which gives the idea of human speech production. It gives explanations about voice produced organ as well as mathematic aspect. Secondly, the classification of sound is reviewed. Thanks to senior researchers, the recognition algorithm of this project is based on Linear Predictive Coding approach. Also, the reference database is adopted from other previous experiments. Although the achieved result is not flawless, it will support the later study and further research in the future. All recognition algorithms are built on Matlab program and ran by a laptop. The software is designed with a user interface to make it convenient to work with. The functions are included of recording, signal processing and matching database algorithm. After evaluation, the recognition result is displayed on the monitor. This report consists of three main parts: 1. Introduction of voice recognition and vocal tract study. 2. Linear Predictive Coding principle. 3. Implementation and demonstration by Matlab program.en_US
