The study of models, methods, and algorithms that aim at reinforcing the security of communication systems by exploiting the properties of the physical layer has grown into a dynamic research area, commonly known as physical layer security. However, such wireless communication severely suffers from noise and fading factor while its ultimate goal is to guarantee that channel capacity of source-destination link is always better than source- eavesdropper’s one. The objective of this thesis is to present the concept and beneficial characteristics of two-way relay in terms of secrecy rate by many proposed relay and jammer selection techniques. To address aforementioned problems, combining cooperative networks and relay/jammer selection are the key factors for improving secrecy performance of the whole system. My work focuses on analyzing and investigating the validation of papers which proposed various techniques to maximize secrecy performance under many different conditions such as untrusted relay, half-duplex or full-duplex relay. The scope of this thesis is subject to two main modes of relay: Amplify and Forward (AF) and Decode and Forward (DF) in relation to given intermediate nodes of the scheme. The power allocation solutions based on external or internal terminals are derived in both legitimate relay and untrusted relay cases. Many different relay and jammer selection techniques are also introduced and tested under certain conditions with the help of two main adopted metrics including secrecy rate and secrecy outage probability to draw the best methods for each corresponding scenario of intermediate node’s distribution.en_US
