Global warming is one of the biggest problem on the planet. It is caused by increased concentrations of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, which mainly comes from human activities such as burning fossil fuels and farming. Many researches have been done to find alternative energy sources and to achieve pollution reduction. One of the most promising energy resources is solar energy, which produce electric energy through photovoltaic process while creating zero carbon emissions. These systems operate silently since there is no moving part and can be mounted on rooftops, making them well suited for urban areas. For those reasons, solar system of photovoltaic system is an interesting subject to study and analyze. The primary research objective in this thesis is to model and simulate a PV system that can provide a stable 3-phase output voltage as well as power to different loads. In addition, a battery energy storage system is also studied to store energy from the PV arrays as well as to supply power to the loads when the PV power is low or even equal to zero. Then, the system is simulated in two methods: dynamic simulation and transient simulation by using PSCAD software. The simulation results show how the PV-BESS system respond to different dynamic operation scenarios as well as different faults that occur at both DC and AC sides of the hybrid PV-BESS system. Last but not least, my recommendations for future work are also presented in the thesis.en_US
