Title: Designing a prototype of smart meter for an energy management system of low-voltage AC microgrids
Authors: Vu Hai Dang
Keywords: Prototype of smart meter;Low-voltage;AC microgrids
Issue Date: 2019
Publisher: Vietnamese-German University
Abstract:
People are not aware of threats of energy wastage when they turned on many electrical devices in non-used status throughout the day. The energy used in most of the times produced from nonrenewable sources that may be causing not only the global warming that the planet is presently experiencing, but also the depletion of fossil fuels. In order to have sustainable energy developments, numbers of efforts are being undertaken by the Governments around the world to explore alternative energy sources and to achieve pollution reduction. Solar energy is one of the biggest renewable energy sources, however it has unstable output due to nature conditions, such as sunshine duration, temperature, and irradiation. Therefore, designing an energy management device plays an important role in renewable energy generation systems (e.g. solar, wind, wave energy, etc.). In this thesis, the design of a prototype of smart meter for an energy management system of low-voltage AC microgrids has been carried out. The relevant topics, theoretical background in a phototvoltaic system and smart meter’s configuration have been reviewed and studied. In order to save the renewable energy source, the system does sensing, filtering, processing data and indicating capacity level of battery storage. Additionally, visualization of measured data is design in a user-friendly form which helps users in controlling the behavior of PV generation system and also reviewing their detailed history of energy usage via internet. After that the results of the designed system are discussed. Specific hardware models are then designed. Software and codes are also generated. Last but not least, results, analysis, discussion, summary and suggestions for further works are provided
