Abstract: 
The aim of this thesis is to analyze the performance of the VoIP using IPv4 and IPv6 with the help of the simulation software OMNeT++.
Voice over IP (VoIP) technology is beneficial combination of the old Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) and the modern Internet Protocol (IP), which has a potential to rework the world’s phone system. Recently, VoIP has played an important role in communication via the Internet infrastructures and continuously evolved. To achieve the current success, VoIP technology has big support from other developed technologies such as Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) and Internet infrastructure. Nowadays, the upgrade of the Internet infrastructure from IPv4 to IPv6 requires an adaption of VoIP technology.
The thesis has two major objectives. The first one is to study the infrastructure of VoIP technology and its components, including DHCP, SIP, IPv4 and IPv6. The second objective is to set up a complete VoIP network model with the help of simulation program OMNeT++ for evaluation the performances of VoIP using IPv4 and IPv6. The performances are analyzed and compared between two versions of IP network in order to see how much each version suits VoIP technology.
