| dc.description.abstract | Autonomous operation of satellites requires reliable electro-optical sensors for aerospace navigation systems. Digital sun sensor is one of the commonly used sensors for attitude determination of satellites. It is mainly composed of a microcontroller and a photosensitive surface. For this work, a profile sensor, which is a high-performance CMOS area sensor particularly intended to acquire projection data, is utilized for the photosensitive surface. It helps the sun sensor achieving high update rate with low power consumption thanks to small amounts of the CMOS area sensor output data. This thesis includes designing of a 2-axis digital sun sensor using commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) components, building a prototype and conducting a performance characterization. The design offers a low-cost solution for micro and nano-satellites. | en_US |
