| dc.description.abstract | Today, the urgency of air pollution, particularly in densely populated mega-cities, cannot be overstated. Its detrimental effects on public health are clear, and with the ever-increasing population and urbanization, the situation is only set to worsen. To address this pressing issue, numerous researchers are exploring diverse methods to estimate and identify the pollutants and their sources. This thesis presents an approach to investigate the issue by estimating the most significant urban air pollution source, private vehicle transportation. The study will focus on simulating the traffic of personal automobiles in a specific area, based on the concept of agent-based transport modeling with traffic-situation-dependent vehicle-specific emission variables. The thesis will construct, integrate, and calculate the simulation and the emission using MATSIM (Multi-Agent Transport Simulation) with the HBEFA (The Handbook Emission Factors for Road Transport) methodology. Various tools will be used to analyze simulation output to gain insight into the pollution. Importantly, the thesis is not just theoretical but is projected in the real-world situation of Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam, using open-source software and open data such as trip forecast, and geometric location | en_US |
