This thesis will focus primarily on three main environmental problems exacerbated by the lack of available green space: Rainwater runoff reduction, which is an integral side effect of concrete and impervious surfaces replacing pervious surfaces; Air quality, specifically CO2 emissions; The Urban Heat Island Effect (rising temperatures in urban areas) which is caused by the destruction of natural, pervious surfaces, and increased hard surfaces.en_US
