This paper aims to focus on the significance of income inequality in Vietnam, why it happens and how to solve the problem. The three main factors causing this situation are urbanization, gender discrimination and education for ethnic minorities. Therefore, the government has provided recent policies on tax incentives, protecting women through legislation and developing education among ethnic minorities to narrow down the income gap nationwide. Although improvements in poor household livelihood, women's social status and basic education for ethnic minority students have been obtained, several barriers still occur during the implementation, supervision and monitoring processes. By evaluating closely how effective these policies are, both achievements and challenges are assessed to come up with specific recommendations, which shall be included in the last chapteren_US
