Title: Human resource implications on the adoption of corporate language through the examples of for-profit and nonprofit organizations in Vietnam
Authors: Dao Quynh Tram
Keywords: Human resource;Profit and nonprofit organizations;Vietnam
Issue Date: 2021
Publisher: Vietnamese-German University
Abstract:
The trend of globalization has brought multinational corporations opportunities to grow and expand and yet so many challenges. Establishing shared languages as common corporate languages is the solution for matters such as miscommunication, access to formal documents, interunit knowledge sharing, and the unification of global branches (Marschan-Piekkari et al., 1999). As a process of integration, multinationals have recognized the corporate languages as an important part of diversity management. Their motivations are narrowed down to three main criteria and strategically discussed in this paper: internal information flow, internal social connection, and externalities. The findings of previous studies are also a great source of evidence and suggestions for human resource implications on processes such as staffing, training, evaluation, and the use of expats. In this paper, the author focuses on five cases of multinationals in Vietnam, including four for-profit organizations and one nonprofit organization to investigate the similarities as well as differences in human resource strategies during the installment of corporate languages. Despite the limitations due to the pandemic, this thesis managed to carry out semi-structured interviews whose outcomes are informative and supportive for future research on the respective topic
