This thesis is about migration to and from Ho Chi Minh City, the economic and cultural center of Vietnam, from the 1900s to present. This period of time can be divided into four main stages: the French Domination, the Vietnam War, the Subsidy Period, and the Renovation Policy. Overall, migrations to Ho Chi Minh City during the French Domination and Vietnam War are mostly related to wars. In contrast, the migrations after Unification (the Subsidy Period and the Renovation Policy) are mostly related to economic reasons as there is an uneven development between HCMC and other areas.en_US
