Title: | Reduce waste at cutting leather process in footwear manufacturing industry | Authors: | Tran Thi My Linh | Keywords: | Cutting leather process;Footwear industry;Lean tools | Issue Date: | 2017 | Publisher: | Vietnamese-German University | Abstract: | Wasting of raw materials is one of the biggest problems in manufacturing industries. As can be known, footwear is the field which consumes the highest percentage of leather compared to other manufacturing plants like garment, leather goods or upholstery and furniture. In addition, the largest quantity of waste is generated at the cutting process especially cutting leather in footwear manufacture. Shyang Hung Cheng Industrial Co.Ltd, a footwear manufacturer of Taiwan, operating in Vietnam since 2001 is also facing with this problem. The process of cutting natural leather at the factory wastes a lot of time as well as hides because it is different to other materials such as textiles or fabric, a leather skin is rarely homogenous and the quality of the leather at the side is generally poor. Therefore, all leather parts of a pair of shoes have to be cut together on a same piece of leather at the process to reach equal quality. This method wastes much time to change cutting tools between parts and releases more waste of leather than other cutting material processes. The goal of the thesis is to apply Quality and Lean techniques to analyze the problem, identify possible causes in order to propose suitable solutions for improvement activities at the cutting leather process in Shyang Hung Cheng Industrial Co.Ltd. |
