Title: | Continuous improvement by applying 5S and SMED tools in Deep Groove Ball Bearing automatic production line | Authors: | Tran Van Nguyen | Issue Date: | 2023 | Abstract: | The Deep Groove Ball Bearing (DGBB) automatic manufacturing line is the most modern production line at Schaeffler Vietnam with an investment of $20 million. After three years of operation, the basics of Lean manufacturing have been set up over production line. However, there are many other aspects that have not been identified to improve production quality and capacity. One of those aspects is upgrading the overall image of the line, which is essential to match modern manufacturing technology and professional working environment. DGBB line operates in a fastpaced environment but still encounters inefficiencies during changeovers. The study aims to promote the continuous improvement culture by applying 5S and SMED method integrated with a visual management system and employee-centered design thinking to enhance the functionality and aesthetics of the existing equipment and visual management systems. At the same time, it brings improvements in production efficiency and creates significant benefits in reducing waste, improving product quality and strengthen company’s competitiveness in today’s fierce business environment. |
