To provide better power quality, many configurations of Energy storage systems (ESSs) with different characteristics can be combined. This thesis presents the readers to the basic knowledge on low voltage direct current (LVDC) Microgrids (MG). Operation of Photovoltaic (PV) generation system and ESS and how to control them in a MG environment are also introduced. This thesis helps further the understanding of transient and dynamic responses of different ESS configurations used for LVDC MG. Simulation of different ESS configurations will be done by using PSCAD software. Besides the simulated DCMG models, a prototype physical setup of a LVDC MG using PV panels as DC power source with different ESS configurations is also used to validate the effectiveness of Battery-Supercapacitor ESS in responding to transient dynamic of DC sources and loads. |
