dc.description.abstract | Purpose of this paper: The purpose of this exploratory study was to find the suitable factors of transformational leadership which deliver the positive effect to employee innovation in hi-tech industry, at Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Design/methodology/approach: The research model is built based on literature review. The in-person interview with 5 middle managers to confirm and consolidate the research model. Data was obtained from a survey of 184 employees working in hi-tech companies. Findings: Five dimensions of transformational leadership; individualized support, foster the group goals, high performance expectation, modelling behavior, intellectual stimulation; grouped in two main factors; are confirmed delivering positive effect and explain 29.9% variance of employee innovation. Research limitations/implications: The low value of Cronbach’s alpha returned from reliability analysis prevents “articulation vision” and “autonomy” attending further analysis. This could cause by the questions used for those indicators obtain the bias. A new questionnaire in future studies could help consider those missed items. Practical implications: The study highlighted the dimensions of transformational leadership that the middle managers of organization can pay attention and practice to apply in order to improve employee innovation in daily work. The project therefore could be completed in high performance and quality. What is original/value of paper: Whereas most research on transformational leadership of middle managers have focuses on the project performance of employee in western countries, the study confirms again the role of transformational leadership to the innovative working of employee in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam. The hi-tech industry is chosen to survey as the most innovative industry in the territory, in order to get the relevant responses in innovative activities. | en_US |
