dc.description.abstract | Subtractive and Additive are two fundamental concepts in modern manufacturing with their own advantages and disadvantages. Each process demands customization, service-orientation and sustainability. The comparison between them will be the basis of process improvement. This thesis describes the results of a comparative study on the variability in surface roughness of an ABS plastic test part manufactured by two different processes: 3D printing and CNC machining. The state-of-the-art in two different machines for Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) and CNC milling are presented aiming at understanding the fundamental limitations of each technology. | en_US |
