Title: | Development of a cloud-based work and time studies software for shoe production planning and scheduling | Authors: | Nguyen Hong Phuc | Keywords: | Cloud-based support tool;Work and time studies;Production planning and scheduling;Shoe production;Footwear industry | Issue Date: | 2018 | Publisher: | Vietnamese-German University | Abstract: | Jia Hsin Co Ltd (JHV), a partner of Adidas Group, currently operates shoe manufacturing plants with a yield of more than 20 million pairs per year with forecast orders continuing rising. To expand effectively the scale of production, the factory has to keep a focus on each stage of the production and improve the performance of activities to minimize wastes, increase productivity. While the reliability of time data is considered as an important source for learning about the system and making decisions, it is not getting enough attention in production planning and scheduling activities that result in the inefficiency in production management. A structured approach to the implementation of work and time studies come as a potential solution to establish time standards. With the improvement of information exchange among relevant departments from development to production, the preparation and execution of time measurements are more efficient and smoother that leads to a reduction of time spent on these activities. In addition, in this age of cloud computing, time data of operations can be stored, selected, and retrieved to generate time standard quickly and consistently in anywhere and anytime. Therefore, a cloud-based support tool for time studies allows optimizing the production planning and scheduling to achieve the objectives of increasing the productivity and decreasing the cost. This thesis has to fulfill the following research objectives: - Firstly, reviewing the knowledge of work and time studies, production planning and information technologies applied to production management. - Secondly, reviewing the relevant researches prior researches on this topic. - Thirdly, analyzing current processes of shoe manufacturing and software - infrastructure and deduction of requirements for time and work studies implementation. - Fourthly, developing a software infrastructure and a graphical user interface for standardizing the collection of work and time studies and reporting on production planning and scheduling decisions. - Fifthly, testing and evaluating the software prototype and demonstrate benefits. |
