Title: | A meta-analysis of the recruitment and retention strategies and practices with a focus on generation Z employees | Authors: | Linh Nguyen Ngoc Phuong | Keywords: | Meta-analysis;Retention strategies;Generation Z employees | Issue Date: | 2022 | Abstract: | For many decades, there have been changes in the workplace that have affected various aspects of organizations. People's expectations have shifted in recent years, and never before have so many diverse generations worked together in today's businesses, posing new issues for human resource management. Standing at the heart of the human resource management process is recruitment and retention, both equally important. Recruitment and retention practices that were formerly stable and successful no longer meet the needs of the New Generation, Generation Z. The term “Generation Z” was first used in the early 2000s and with the influx of employees from this group in the next coming years, employers need to prepare themselves by implementing suitable practices for recruitment and retention. There is currently no systematic documentation of the recruitment and retention practices presently in use by HR professionals worldwide. Hence, practitioners of HR do not have an overview of the ongoing situation and encounter difficulties when making strategic plans, especially when it comes to Gen Z, the youngest group of employees. A meta-analysis and systematic review of 29 former research carried out by academics was conducted, in order to bridge this literature gap and give insights into the recruitment and retention trends, as well as sketch out potential strategies to cope with a new workforce |
