Title: | The emergence of peer-to-peer lending platforms will they be substitute or complement to banks the case of Vietnam. | Authors: | Vo Le Thi | Keywords: | P2P lending platforms;Political factors;Economic factors | Issue Date: | 2022 | Abstract: | The 4.0 revolution has been changing and affecting every aspect of the globe’s social-economic life, resulting in changes in people’s consuming behavior (Sima et al., 2020). Following this automation and digitalization trend, the Banking and Finance industry has also been integrating, launching, and applying up-to-date technologies (Muljani et al., 2019). Vietnam is not an exception. Besides the modernization of traditional banking services, it is also a promising land for Financial Technology (Fintech) firms (Lien et al., 2020). Peer-to-peer lending (P2P lending) is currently one of the leading fields in the Vietnamese Fintech ecosystem, accounting for 17% of all market players (Fintechnews Vietnam, 2020). This research paper is one of the first writing questions on the future position of P2P lending platforms to their incumbents in Vietnam, whether they will displace existing credit services or fill the credit demand gaps. The thesis concentrates on the relationship between P2P digital platforms and banks within the personal loan market. This correlation will be investigated using a PEST framework to obtain the answer. The competitive strengths of the two types of lenders will be evaluated based on four essential aspects of a business, namely Political, Economic, Socio-cultural, and Technological. Further, customers’ financial behavior and their readiness for a new form of credit service will also be investigated using SPSS to learn about variables’ frequencies and correlation by running One-way ANOVA Tests and Independent Samples T-Test. |
