Title: | Applying blockchain to electronic vaccine certification | Authors: | Nguyen Luu Phat | Keywords: | COVID-19;Vaccination certificates;Digitalizing;Blockchain | Issue Date: | 2021 | Abstract: | The Covid-19 outbreak, which occurred around the end of 2019, has caused a global disaster. Vaccines have been distributed in billions of doses all across the world until now. Countries are progressively reopening their borders to restore their economy after the pandemic. They apply measures to quickly test for covid and use vaccination certificates to control the disease. Vaccination certificates can be faked and are challenging to validate. An alternative is to centralize the storage and certification systems by digitizing them. However, it still has some problems, such as the system being attacked or natural disasters, causing the central system to be suspended. Blockchain is a promising technology that has the potential to address the drawbacks mentioned above. This thesis describes a possible solution to digitalize the process of managing, distributing, and issuing vaccination certificates by utilizing the Ethereum blockchain platform to avoid fraud, forgeries, and cyberattacks. Furthermore, it analyzes the pros and cons of this approach in comparison to the traditional centralized system |
