Title: | Develop a personal finance plan to archive financial freedom in Vietnam using a web-based system | Authors: | Nguyen Chi Thien | Keywords: | Personal finance;Financial services | Issue Date: | 2020 | Publisher: | Vietnamese-German University | Abstract: | The development of personal finance services recently in Vietnam such as the consumer finance lending sector or mobile wallet has provided people with more opportunities to access financial services. However, it also raised concerns that financial security of people will not be ensured without proper financial knowledge and a clear personal financial plan. This leads to the need to understand the financial literacy of Vietnamese people and how they behave toward financial planning. Several researchers have identified the relationship between demographic data such as age, gender, education or financial responsibilities and financial literacy. Also, S&P Global Finlit surveys in 2014 also hinted that the financial literacy of Vietnamese people is lower than global average. Nevertheless, surveys in 2020 suggest that the situation has changed, and the financial literacy of Vietnamese people has been significantly improved while majority of them have good financial behavior such as retirement plan establishment and saving for risky events. On the other hand, the financial behavior still tends to be ad-hoc and based on traditional habits rather than because of a clear personal finance plan with measurable figures. Financial planning process including several steps from identity the current financial situation by analyzing assets and liabilities, developing the income, controlling future expenses and achieving well-defined established objectives such as financial freedom. However, personal finance applications in Vietnam such as Money Keeper or Money Lover currently focus on tracking income and expenses rather than helping to plan for the future state. Hence, the thesis also presents a reference model to support different states of financial planning and help people in estimating the time when they achieve the financial freedom status. |
