Title: | The future of the UK automotive industry post-brexit | Authors: | Le Khac Chieu Mai | Keywords: | Supply chain;Industry post-Brexit | Issue Date: | 2021 | Publisher: | Vietnamese-German University | Abstract: | The UK automotive is one of the largest and most successful industries in the world. Its value in 2019 was worth more than 78.9 billion GBP and added about 15.3 billion GBP to the UK economy. The success of the UK automotive industry would not be achieved without significant advantages from the EU membership. Thus, after the UK decided to leave the EU, the future of the UK automotive industry post-Brexit has received considerable concerns. Indeed, Brexit has exerted several unfavorable effects on the UK automotive industry, including supply chain disruptions, FDI shrinkages due to rising uncertainty, the presence of non-tariff barriers, and the skills shortage issue. Hence, this paper focuses on analyzing these challenges and after that proposes some strategies for the industry to overcome troubles and regain its competitive position. Furthermore, the impact of the Covid-19 outbreak on the UK automotive industry will also be briefly discussed in this paper. |
